About Heritage Gateway

The Heritage Gateway provides access to summary records from national and local Historic Environment Records (HERs). You can use it to search across datasets and gain an overview of England’s historic environment in one place.

The original Heritage Gateway website was launched over 15 years ago by Historic England in partnership with the Institute of Historic Building Conservation and the Association of Local Government Archaeological Officers.

We are currently running this open Beta version of the new Heritage Gateway as part of the redevelopment of the site. Your feedback is invaluable, as it will guide us in making essential improvements and identifying any issues.

Some data may be unavailable at this stage but will be added over time. We will also be adding new features.

We greatly appreciate your thoughts and feedback as this will help improve the website.

For Heritage Gateway comments or queries the contact email address is HeritageGateway@HistoricEngland.org.uk

* For those unfamiliar with the term, a Beta site is a pre-release version of software made available to the public for testing prior to its official launch.
