Preserving Archaeological Remains in Situ (PARIS) Conference 2026

Historic England is hosting the next Preserving Archaeological Remains in situ (PARIS) conference in May 2026 at our London office.

PARIS6 2026

Date: Thursday 14 May to Saturday 16 May (with optional events on 14 and 17 May)

Venue: Historic England office, 4th Floor, Cannon Bridge House, 25 Dowgate Hill, London EC4R 2YA

Conference sessions and content

When we meet for PARIS6, it will be 30 years since the first PARIS conference in London in 1996. While many of the challenges we faced then have been investigated and addressed, new pressures (for example, climate change) have become high priorities for our research and management action.

The PARIS6 conference will be an opportunity to explore those themes and others with scientists and heritage managers from across Europe and beyond.

The conference sessions cover the following topics:

  • Climate change impacts on preservation in situ
  • Climate change mitigation, adaptation, and strategic planning, in relation to preservation in situ
  • New techniques and methodologies for preservation in situ
  • Theory and practice into policy (how archaeological preservation policy and practice have evolved over the thirty years)
  • Recent case studies of the preservation of archaeological sites in situ (posters only)
