Preserving Archaeological Remains in Situ (PARIS) Conference 2026

Historic England is hosting the next Preserving Archaeological Remains in situ (PARIS) conference in May 2026 at our London office.

PARIS6 2026

Date: Thursday 14 May to Saturday 16 May

Venue: Historic England office, 4th Floor, Cannon Bridge House, 25 Dowgate Hill, London EC4R 2YA

Conference themes

When we meet for PARIS6, it will be 30 years since the first PARIS conference in London in 1996. While many of the challenges we faced then have been investigated and addressed, new pressures (for example climate change) have become high priorities for our research and management action.

The PARIS6 conference will be an opportunity to explore those themes and others with scientists and heritage managers from across Europe and beyond.

Conference themes are likely to include:

  • Climate change
  • New developments in the science of preservation
  • Progress over the last 30 years

Important information

The conference will be hybrid, with in-person and online registration options available.

The approximate costs are likely to be £225 (in person) and £75 (online). The price will include 2 days of conference attendance, lunch and refreshments, an evening reception and access to the subsequent conference proceedings.

As in-person places are somewhat limited, we will give preference to those presenting papers in the first instance.

Conference registration update

Thank you to everyone who’s filled out the expression of interest form. We’ll use the contact details you provided to let you know when registration opens.

Due to high interest and limited venue capacity, in-person spots will likely be filled by those already on the list. If you haven’t added your name yet and would like to, please email Jim Williams

Details about online attendance and any remaining in-person places will be shared later this year.

Conference organisers Jane Sidell and Jim Williams are looking forward to welcoming you to London next year.
