Pride in Place Funding Announcement

Historic England said:

"We welcome the government's intention to revitalise neglected high streets in 330 locations across the country through the newly announced 'Pride in Place' programme. Our own work in this area has shown that heritage is one of the three main drivers of ‘pride in place’, and that our high streets are packed with heritage that is both cherished by communities and full of economic potential.

Our recent successful High Streets Heritage Action Zones programme demonstrated that investing in historic buildings can help deliver good growth by creating jobs, supporting businesses, providing new housing in vacant historic buildings and boosting local pride.

Our current Heritage at Risk Capital Fund programme also targets buildings and projects that matter to the most deprived communities.

We have experience and expertise in this area and look forward to working on this new programme with our partners in local government and within communities to successfully deliver the change needed."

Background

Our recent work has identified that repurposing existing historic buildings, such as old textile mills, could create an additional 670,000 homes, highlighting the potential for heritage-led urban regeneration to address the housing crisis and boost local economies.
